Questions of Ethics and Morals
for Today’s Organizational Leaders

Organizational leaders set the tone for ethics and morals for their companies. Aside from leading with the example, they must have the characteristics, support team and know-how to get this done. In this presentation, Dr. Birkland will consider a number of ethical and moral questions that are on the minds of contemporary organizational leaders and provide examples as well as current research on what it takes to build an ethical organization.

Dr. Adib Birkland, University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management

Originally from Minnesota, Adib Birkland received his Ph.D. in Human Resource Management from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management in 2008. He now teaches there as a senior lecturer. Adib’s research interests lie in the areas of ethics, leadership, counterproductive workplace behaviors, personality, and culture. He has worked with organizations of all sizes around the United States and internationally. Adib recently returned to the Twin Cities with his wife and three children after 12 years in New York City.

Objectives:

  • 1. Differentiate between ethics and morals.
  •  2. List what leaders must have for ethical leadership. 3. Determine approaches to
  • workplace-based examples of ethical dilemmas. 4. Name at least 3 resources of
