Washington Outlook: What’s Next for Workplace Public Policy

Presented by:

Emily M. Dickens, J.D.

Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary

Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM)

This program is pre-approved for 1 SHRM PDC & HRCI Business Credit

With each new Administration HR professionals can expect proposed changes to long-standing labor issues. However, a rapidly changing workplace has policymakers searching for innovative, modern approaches that will keep up with the needs of employers, employees and an electorate laser focused on accountability.

During this presentation, Emily M. Dickens, SHRM Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary, will discuss the unprecedented levels of electorate participation, and outline how workplace public policy is evolving. Ms. Dickens will also highlight legislative initiatives that are impacting employees and businesses across the country, and SHRM’s policy priorities.

As HR professionals continue to navigate a changing workplace, recognizing the impact of the election on workplace policy, and how it can affect your organization, is critical. SHRM has a clear vision and will continue to be a thought leader and resource, as well as advocate for public policies that will enable businesses to have the flexibility they require to support and develop their workforce.

Participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the foundations of policymaking;
  • Learn how HR professionals can influence workplace public policy and how these changes may affect their organizations and workforce;
  • Strengthen skills to help employers navigate and advocate for critical policy issues that will create better workplaces; and
  • Develop strategies to engage elected representatives on policies and programs impacting work, workers, and the workplace.
